GMAT's

Have been studying for the GMAT's, the standarized test required for admission to all business schools. It is incredibly hard! Who am I kidding? Why am I bothering? One whole section is math based and well...I suck at math.

All the schools I'm applying to (except the ONE in Virginia), require high scores. Should I even bother applying to these places? What is the point, if I already know I'm not going to score this unbelievably high score? Or should I tell the admission committee's that I'm not a great standarizied test taker but that those scores are not indictative of how well I will do in their program. They just need to see my history to see this statement is true...I did average on my SAT's, which are suppose to be this great harbinger of how well you will do in college. According to my SAT's, I would have been a "C" student - but instead I graduated third in my class, with honors.

These standarizied tests simply grade how smart you are on the I.Q. scale, but they don't show how much you'll work, you're effort. I remember these kids in my high school class who were in the gifted and talented program, because they had such high I.Q.'s, half of them were below me in ranking. They might have been smart but they didn't care about doing anything (a lot of them were known drug users). I know I'm not genetically smart but I also know that I will work VERY hard to do well. Shouldn't that count for something? Isn't that the kind of person you want in your MBA program?

Yes, write an essay to the schools. Sometimes helps, and it sounds like you might do well.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Go for it. At least you can say that you tried.

I have a feeling you'll do fine, though! You never fail to impress ME..... good luck!

You'll do just fine. They will be impressed with your drive, hard work, and life experience. And IQ isn't everything, but you've got a generous share of that, too!

Take the test and see how you do before you decide which way to go. You might surprise yourself.

You do more disservice to your own success by discounting yourself than any standardized test score, no matter how high or low, could ever do.

You just noted yourself that your SAT score was not only NOT indicative of your academic ability, but it was NOT a hindrance to your being accepted into a good school where you succeeded.

And why presume that you're not genetically smart? What the hell does that mean, anyway? Intelligence is not some one-dose magic gift. True, there are many born with diminished learning ability, but those born with immense learning ability are not necessarily any better off than they are.

Think about it: A man could be born with no legs, and his brother with the legs of an Olympic athlete, and their sister born with pretty good legs. The legless sibling can only make due with what he has. His brother may choose to run and sometimes succeed, but ultimately chooses to just brag about his legs and rest on their reputation. Their sister, on the other hand trains her whole life, keeps in shape her whole life and runs regularly. Who's the better runner, the healthy brother or the sister? She's the one who's in shape and disciplined. He just has a reputation to rely on. Physical prowess is a whole package. Intelligence is the same way.

And I agree with Pax.

If you never try, you'll never know if you'd've succeeded. ... and your chances are better with grad school than with the lottery!

Joe - Thanks for the vote of confidence, but I am not so sure I'll do well. I think I will take your suggestion and write a little something.
Pax - true nothing ventured nothing gained. Maybe I can be teh Elle Woods of the GMAT?
Brenda - I concur that hard work should win everytime, but sadly it doesn't does it? Another injustice in the world.
tony - we can hate math together (I just don't get it). oh thanks so much for the lovin' I do so hope I do well, but it's an uphill battle.
Merci - thanks for the high praise. That is a good suggestion, just see how I do before deciding anything. Hopefully as I prepare I'll get better at this test.
Molly - Thank you! I know I can always count on you to boast me up and remind me that I'm not a total loser. You are great at battling my internal demons (hey that could be your second job!).

How would you do a reverse license plate number check up? I want to know whether there is any type of way you can type in a license plate number on-line and see the identify of the person if it belongs to or the address of that person. Can someone help me to solve this? It's an Illinois license plate with S right at the end of it. Please email me if you're able to investigate or post if you know how you can do a absolutely free one. Thanks very much.
