I'm Back!

I'm back from South Africa, sorry no View from the 23rd Row this week. Got in early yesterday morning, but had to go straight to work and immediately after that had to dash to my GMAT prep courses (why do I bother, I am not smart enough for business school).

Trip was fun, South Africa is a lovely country, everyone is so nice! I think probably the friendliest people in the world. However, with that said though, my heart was crushed and I'm trying valiantly not to fall into massive depression. I didn't get to see the guy I liked and found out from some of the South African girls that at 29 in South Africa, I'm not only off the shelf, but completely and unutterably (sp) undesirable - better I just crawl under a rock and die.

Trying to catch up on all my ice skating that I missed (no one tell me who won ice dance, I have that on tape and will watch this weekend). Do hope everyone is well, I'll try to bop around and check it out.

Geez, here in the US you haven't even reached your prime. Sounds like those gals are just trying to eliminate some of the competition.

Welcome back!

Come on, you don't live in South Africa. In the US you should just be getting to guys that are old enough to start caring about others instead of just themselves.

Hon, you're probably smarter than most of the folks I've known who stumbled their way through business school, don't sell yourself so short!

And Joeinvegas is right, you're getting to the age where people get tired of the meet market and ready for real, meaningful relationships. At this point you know who you are and what you want, and are less likely to deal with any "drama" that a younger person would. You have to think positively! :-)

ditto to Merci, VegasJoe and RandomKath.
I did a research paper in college for a costume history class about the health hazards of corsets on women back in the day. It wasn't unheard of for women to corset themselves so tightly that upon autopsy of their bodies it was discovered they had essentially severed (SLOWLY SEVERED - contemplate THAT pain) the organs in their midsection. Not to mention women who would just pass out a la Scarlett O'Hara. Toward the end of the victorian age, women were parodied in british cartoons for their "S" posture and as we know, corsets eventually fell out of fashion completely circa 1920. Not every woman is meant to have those curves, and NO woman is meant to look like a wasp-pinched freak. The more women forced themselves to conform to a narrow beauty standard, the more harm they did to themselves (and often their babies, as it wasn't uncommon to corset up to the 3rd trimester).
Now for the analogy: The more we individual women insist on allowing ourselves to conform to tighter and tighter standards that are essentially unacheivable, the more harm we do to ourselves, and to whatever children we mentor. (We tell the future, it's better to suffer under unattainable standards then it is to be happy or healthy.) The VirginiaGal shape cannot be forced into the strict, narrow automaton mold you seem to keep encountering. I'd bet lots of money that NONE of whatever girls you met are genuinely happy, by the way. Screw them!

Now that my shallow pontification has ended: UPDATE US ON THE GOOD PARTS! HOW WAS SOUTH AFRICA?! UPDATE! UPDATE! UPDATE! I WANT A JOURNEYMAN'S LOG!

I envy you so much! I want to see South Africa too!

29? Out of business? You've gotta be kidding? Had I not been very much married I'd ask for your phone number right away. :)

You're just too hard on yourself. I agree with everyone above.

Merci - oh you are sweet, trust me, I'm so NOT competition.
Joe - sage advice, I agree I really should be concerned with guys who care about me more than themselves. Just got to have my heart understand that.
Random Kath - positivity - good idea - and thanks for the vote of confidence, but I just took my first practice GMAT test, oh my God, I am so in trouble. I've forgotten all my math!! Crap.
Snicks - umm...I haven't seen Mile High - is it about airlines? I'm touched you thought of me.
Naema - thanks for the vote of confidence, but I think you are biased - let's be honest, we know in our community at my age, I'm way OLD. Sigh.
Pax - Thanks Blogdad : )
Molly - thanks for the wake-up call - you're right, I know, just have to get my head to believe it. I am unique, I don't want to fit into any mold and I want some guy who appreciates my uniqueness. I'm getting on the log, rest assured.
POP - oh you are so sweet, bringing a smile to my face - perhaps I am to hard on myself, we are our own worst critics, no? I just hope God has larger plan for me - with a happy ending : )
