Happy Friday!

Raining in DC this morning - thought we could all do with a laugh to start the day - Happy Friday (click on the strip to see it clearly)!

Just some further random thoughts.....
  • Finished Memoirs of a Geisha. I really enjoyed it. In our European-centric world, it was fascinating to read about a cultural aspect of Japan. Next up Rogue State, that book Osama Bin Laden referrenced in his latest tirade. Wanna see what all the hype is about.
  • Mixed feelings on the whole Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) editorial comic situation. The comic is offensive to me not so much for the image (which yes is blasphemous in Islam, we don't allow graven pictures of the Prophet (pbuh) rightly out of fear of idol-worship) but more so for what it represents - the idea that the Prophet (pbuh) was a terrorist. This probably warrants a full post - will write about it on Monday.
  • Yesterday's ER episode was total drivel, completely predictable and dull - but mark my words, James Wood will get the Emmy for male guest star come September.
  • Have no interest in seeing Brokeback Mountain, not because of the subject material but because it looks boring, kinda like Shadowlands - which I did not like at all. But am interested in seeing Final Destination 3 - I'm sad, I know.
  • My figure skating Olympic predictions next week - can't wait for the games to begin!
  • Considering graduate school after this job ends...am I crazy???
  • I have a jpeg picture that I want to put on the sidebar (it doesn't link to anything), does anyone know how to do that in blogger?

Have a good weekend!

Marge: Homer, the plant called. They said if you don't show up tomorrow don't bother showing up on Monday.

Homer: Woo-hoo. Four-day weekend.

Final Destination 3? Nice, VA Gal. You'll never want to ride a roller coaster again, you know!
... Shadowlands ruled! 3 hankie movie! I've heard nothing of good things about BBMtn. I'm looking forward to it. My only hesitation: I can't buy Jakie Gyllenhall as a cowboy in the previews I've seen. Having lived around cowboys, Jakie just seems too city-fied. He totally seems to be acting. Ledger on the other hand seems to have the reticencse down. He definitely reminds of the guys in high school who wore dusters and mud splattered ropers to class.

I don't want to see BBM either. But I DO want to see XMen3!! Woo-hoo!!

Why do you put pbuh after "you know who's" name in your post? Is that a respect thing because you're typing his name? Hey, I'm curious.

Molly - ha ha - I saw Final Destinaion One and you know how often I get on a plane : )
We have had this Shadowlands debate before my friend - I can't come to your side on this one, it was crap!
Maidink - oh good I'm not the only one who doesn't want to see BBM.
No harm in being curious. PBUH stands for Peace Be Upon Him, it is done out of respect - like a blessing everytime you say his name.

Graduate school is a good idea. Go for it. Better to have a miserable job making lots of money than a miserable job making crap wages. And you might get to be the boss.

Just put the pic link into your template, like you did for the comic on your page.

BBM is the flavor of the month. I have not seen it because I usually don't like to jump on bandwagons - I would suggest gay themed films like "Urbania" or "Latter Days" or "Tales of The City" or "Angels in America" or "A Home at the End of The World"...etc. I will watch it when it comes out on DVD but frankly, I just want to see Heath and Jake kiss, the rest of the time I'd be day-dreaming.

I read Memoirs of a Geisha a couple of years ago, and I liked it a lot, too. It is not an easy read. I'm going to see the movie with some friends (girls' night out) next week.

And I love Calvin and Hobbes!

Joe - very good point! Jobs are jobs but at least if you are making more money, you don't feel as bad : )
Pax - BBM is totally the flavor of the month and I'm sure its probably as good a film as any other, just I hate these slow moving pieces, lots of long stares and deep thoughts. I don't have the attention span, hee hee.
Adorable Tony - do I hear the makings of a poet laureante..? Jake is all yours, he does nothing for me. : )
Merci - Calvin makes everything feel better, no? I think Memoiors was not an easy read in that it is painful at times to experience Sayuri's life. I related to a lot of the strict Asian culture and I mourned for her when things did not go happily. I've noticed worldwide, we women most easily sacrifice our happiness. You'll have to tell us how the movie was.
