Baby Names

I went to visit my friend in London last week, she and her husband just had their first baby - a boy. The little munchin was so cute!!! It got me thinking of something I do whenever a friend tells me they are excpecting (and I'm right in that stage of life where it seems like every other month I'm buying a freaking baby shower gift, I wish Babies R Us had a credit card with points, I would have been eligible for something big by now)!

Anyway, I always send my girlfriend a list of names that I currently like. Yes, it is none of my business, but whatever - all I'm doing is giving her some extra suggestions. Maybe she hadn't thought about it...

This list is ever changing but as of July 19, 2006, Virginia Gal's (current) favorite baby names
Girls
1. Nina
2. Eleanor
3. Bronwyn
4. Mariah
5. Cordelia
6. Kessler
7. Nerissa
8. Ella
9. Bailey
10. Fiona

Boys
1. Marcus
2. Caine
3. Carter
4. Jordan
5. Ian
6. Sumner
7. Luke
8. Preston
9. Tennyson
10. Colin

Do you have any particular names you are partial too?

ps - mind you I love these names, but my kids (InshAllah) will all be named Muslim names. I'm too traditional that way.

For girls, I like Genevieve (which is a form of Guenevere), Elizabeth, Caroline, Marianne, Corinne, Dorothy, Meg, Mara, Naomi, Laura, Jane Sophie, Sophia, Madeleine, Eleni and lots more.

For boys, I like simple, straightforward names - Steven, John, Jack, Bob, James and all the rest. I also like Biblical names like Joshua, Adam, Gideon, Seth, Luke, Jacob etc.

There should be a comma between Jane and Sophie :) "Jane Sophie," not quite right.

I wanted one of my granddaughters to be named Animik but the daughters wouldn't go for a dutch name. I like old fashioned names for boys like Jacob, Ian, etc,,

Melissa was always my favorite. For boys, never thought up a good one. Maybe Spike.

Merci - oh I love your name selections - lovely - Madeline, is so pretty, so is Sophia, Genievieve, how original!

Tony - ha ha - sadly I often hear the name tony and think "danza" I'm weird.

Maidink - Who knows, maybe Dinkers will get a sibling and both names are cute - there was a Brianna at the daycare I worked at, she was a character : )

Miz Bohemia - oh thank you, glad you liked the list. Actually my favorite Muslim girl name is Iranian, I think its Perusian, Ariana. Pretty.

Naema - if you name your kid Shah Ruk, I'm going to laugh and laugh - that is too funny!!

Brenda - hmmm interesting, never heard of this Animik - but it does look Dutch. I like old names as well, they seem to be making a resurgence, no?

Laurie - Luke! Get out of town, see again another example of us having similar thoughts, great minds think alike! Atticus, that is way cool.

Joe - Spike, hee hee - maybe you can suggest that if E gets a little brother : ) . Melissa, that was very popular when I was growing up but you don't hear it anymore. Strange.

Molly - Well I'm glad to hear that the kids are no longer just sounds or long constants stuck together, hee hee.
oh that is so sweet of you to say about the lists
